Case Story Urban Community Volunteers Dhaka

Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to earthquake due to its geographical location; massive earthquake could cause big earthquakes in cities. Hence, Bangladesh government took an initiative to develop 62,000 Urban Community Volunteers (UCVs) so that they can provide firsthand support to the affected people even before the arrival of the professionals. Proyash II works for a mandate to develop and capacitate Urban Community Volunteers (UCVs) through capacity building activities in order to utilize resources in the time of emergency. The life of Tuli, Zakaria, Kamrul and other Urban Community Volunteers (UCVs) was just bound to schooling and coming back home unlike other days. That course of lifestyle has drastically changed when Proyash II came to the light at the Bauniabadh community under its capacity and awareness building trainings, sessions, workshops, campaigns and so on. “I always seek an opportunity to involve volunteerism but due to lack of suitable platform I didn’t go further” was telling Zakaria, an UCV of Mirpur.
